Like many business success stories, First Media began with an innovative idea, backed up by an entrepreneurial spirit. The idea? Applying modern technology to humankind’s age-old quest for companionship.

Our first product offering was The Pepsi Party Line – a voice chat telephone system whose instant and emphatic popularity laid the groundwork for our flagship product, Quest Personals.

Launched in Toronto in 1988, Quest Personals began as a simple, yet highly effective tool to bridge the gap between busy people looking for a new way to connect. Using Interactive Voice Response (IVR) technology, our customers could place a personals ad, recorded in their own voice, and respond to the voice ads of other callers using our custom-designed voicemail system. The chatline component allowed callers online simultaneously to communicate instantly via voice messages, or to talk one-on-one in a secure, private connection.

As Quest phone systems began to proliferate across North America, First Media introduced unprecedented 24-7 customer service and automated billing.

Seizing the opportunity presented by new technology, First Media took the Quest Personals brand to the internet in 1999, with the launch of www.questpersonals.com.

First Media continues to aggressively capture new demographic markets. In March 2003, Axxess Chat debuted, targeting the 18-25 year old segment. Its instant success has led to rapid expansion to new audiences, including the previously un-tapped Spanish-speaking market in 14 US cities.

From its beginnings, First Media has enjoyed tremendous growth to become one of the leaders in meeting technologies today.
